Attractant & Repellent Testing
|
|
| Due to increasingly
onerous governmental requirements for studies involving human subjects,
Benzon Research has suspended nearly all in vivo repellent testing,
including the standard cage test shown here. |
|
| However, we continue to develop and utilize a
variety of novel
protocols for studying attractants and repellents in the
laboratory. A 30 ft long walk-in wind tunnel and other test
chambers are available for
testing chemistry as well as attractant traps and other devices. The
small
vertical-airflow olfactometer shown here is used to closely observe
the effects of airborne chemical odors on insects in flight. |
|
| Here is a
triple-chambered wind tunnel specifically designed to rapidly screen
chemicals for their behavioral effects on small flying insects.
Positive "hits" can be further studied in larger devices or outdoors. |
