Insect Bioassay Scientist
POSITION SUMMARY
The successful candidate will join our full-time permanent team as the primary component of our in-house insect bioassay service. Prior entomology experience is preferred but not required! An energetic, responsible applicant experienced in general laboratory techniques and looking to take on a new challenge will be an excellent fit in this position. Extensive training will be provided.
Insect bioassays are a hands-on, production-oriented discipline where most days are unique in terms of workload. The Insect Bioassay Scientist has direct responsibility for scheduling and completing projects, receiving support as needed from their superiors, as well as our insect rearing team. Working with insects is a unique career, where training and support are integral to our success. We hope to hire an individual who will join us on our journey as a small but dedicated company that engages with both customers and fellow employees from a baseline of respect and commitment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct various types of insect bioassays.

Collect data, analyze results, and report to clients.

Draft, review, and update SOPs and other work instructions.

Clean and organize the laboratory space.

Maintain, clean, and calibrate laboratory equipment.

Assist in other research data collection and insect quality control.

Support the insect production team when available and required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Entomology, Biology, or an equivalent discipline.

Laboratory experience (post-secondary and/or professional).
-
Meticulous, self-starting attitude.
-
Ability to work well alone and with others in an interdisciplinary team.

Understanding of the fundamentals of experimental design and basic statistics.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-
Organized understanding of efficient time-management in a production atmosphere.
-
Flexible, results-oriented attitude.
-
Skill with operation of basic laboratory equipment, such as balances and pipettes.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, word processing, and email correspondence.
Please note: This position is primarily procedure-based (not R&D). Therefore, we do not plan to interview or hire Ph.D.-level candidates.
COMPENSATION
A competitive base salary, beginning at $45,000 annually. Company-paid medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverages. We offer bonuses, paid time off and other company-sponsored fringe benefit programs, all in a casual, close-knit team environment.

Insect Laboratory Technician

The successful candidate will join our full-time permanent team as an Insect Rearing Technician. Prior entomology experience is not required! An energetic, responsible applicant looking to take on a new challenge will be an excellent fit in this position. Extensive training will be provided and lack of prior scientific experience is not an absolute requirement.
Insect rearing is a hands-on, production-oriented discipline. Most days are unique in terms of exact workload, but are extremely task and schedule oriented. Insect Rearing Technicians work as a team to complete daily tasks, receiving support as needed from the management team. Working with insects is a unique career, where training and support are integral to our success. We hope to hire an individual who will join us on our journey as a small but dedicated company that engages with both customers and fellow employees from a baseline of respect and commitment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare insect artificial diets.

Complete general tasks related to housing and caring for insect colonies.

Prepare insect shipments for customers.

Basic data collection.

Learn, follow, and update SOPs and other work instructions.

Support the insect bioassay (testing) team when required.
